A slight turn for the history books as A4s 60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower and 60010 Dominion of Canada were repatriated to the United Kingdom from their time abroad on the American Continent. The move, a daring and audacious way to grab the headlines and spearhead plans for celebrating Mallards 75th aniversary of the engine making 126.5 mph, next year in 2013. Dwight D Eisenhower's front half landed first at Shildon and is seen at the end of the gallery back lit by the museum, an outstation of the NRM at York, but also in the twon that is the birthplace of the Railways. The tender followed on Friday morning and the engine is seen parked enjoying the autumn sun. Dominion was then transported on Saturday, arriving and being deposited back on Eastern Region territory, but looking worse for wear after a shunting accident over in Canada. They are seen touching the lines connected to the Eastern Region for the first time back in the UK.
