And now for something completely different... well for now anyway. Testing the Pendolino 390055 at night was an ominous sign of guage clearences being checked in what could be a move as a precursor to ordering the class for the East Coast. While some might decry the use of the EMU on the mainline, fact remains that the trip was something of a milestone for the class itself and should anything follow from the trial.

The train itself was seen at Newcastle Central, along with the class 57, 57309, acting as a Thunderbird, though now devoid of any markings of its role at Virgin West Coast. Also seen that nigh was class 67 67024, which was standing as standby engine at Newcastle.
