As part of the Coal contract that was signed with Colas route learning was needed from the mainline as far as around York, to Bishop Auckland for the Colas crews. While some runs concerntrated on the Bishop Auckland branch itself it did mean that for a week in 2010 a class 47 was used by Colas to train its drivers on the route, instructed by a pilot from WCRC. Here the train is seen mainly at Shildon on the Bishop Auckland branch.
