Heavy snowfall forced the railway industry to get out some heavy machinery to deal with clearing the snow from the ground. The Independant Snowploughs that rarely see use, save for testing, were dug out from Tees Yard and then put between a class 31 and 37 (97/3) to clear snow on the Esk Valley line, the railway being a lifeline given the steep roads out of the valley and just proves that Railways still have a role in the 21st Century. One aspect that did show the privitised railway perhaps at its most pedantic, was that the 31 and 37 came from Derby to work the train, rather than hire two 66s, which would happen later, as apparently the verteran locomotives where cheaper.....
